Daniel's Great Image—the Feet and Toes

Daniel's prophecy of the Great Image in Daniel 2 is presently being fulfilled. When Daniel wrote his book, Babylon was the world power and was the golden head of the image. Medo-Persia overthrew Babylon to become the next world power--the breast and arms of silver. Greece conquered Medo Persia--the belly and thighs of brass. Greece was overtaken by Rome--the legs of iron. Next, Britain emerged from the world power of Rome, retaining the element of iron.

Continuing, Daniel says, "And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided." It is a historical fact the United States emerged from Britain. The two countries at one time were divided, but over time became allied with one another. Britain and the United States are the feet and toes--"part potter's clay, and part iron."

In time, the United States became the dominant of the two but remains allied with Britain. Every historian today would agree the United States is the superpower. The United States is the toes that are part iron and part clay. Iron and clay are two elements that have no cohesion with one another, "the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken." The extreme right and the extreme left severely divide the United States at present, and there is no cohesion between the two, like "iron and clay." Daniel also says of the toes, "they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men." (Daniel 2:43) The United States is a country made up of immigrants, people of many ethnicities--"the seed of men". People are coming here from all over the world. It has become one of the dominant issues facing the country and divides it. This situation is representative of the radical world of today that makes up the final part of the Great Image. Will it bow to God’s authority? The answer is no.

Daniel says, "And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever." This is the kingdom Jesus preached about, and the kingdom over which he is presently ruling as the king, the true last, best hope for humanity. It will crush and end all other kingdoms, and most importantly bring permanent peace to the earth.
